Vader, XXV

After 25 years as a musical entity I guess you can do whatever you damn well please when it comes to your albums. Even if that means celebrating by going deep in your discography to rerecord some of your more influential and favorite tracks. Well, that’s what Vader has done as a birthday present to themselves.

XXV is a two disc set of classic Vader tracks rerecorded in the current incarnation — spanning from their 1990 demo Morbid Reich up to 2004’s The Beast. Some of the tracks sound better and are reinvented in a matter of speaking while others not so much. Perhaps it’s the old school Vader fan in me that likes the originals a bit more for their nostalgia more than anything else. Overall, this is a pretty good set to have in the collection. It’s always cool to hear bands play their old stuff and since I don’t get out to concerts as much as I used to, this is usually the only way for me to hear them in their current manifestation.

Also, as an added bonus to most of their rerecorded stuff, Vader also throws in a pretty damned good cover of Terrorizer’s “Fear of Napalm” as well as a cover of another local Polish band. What would have truly made this a stellar anniversary release would have been some extra media like videos or a DVD to accompany it, but this should still tide you over till the next Vader full release.
