Mutant Supremacy, Infinite Suffering

You getting tired of all the old school death metal floating around these days? Really, you are? That’s too bad. I can’t get enough of the shit especially when it sounds like the beastly destruction on Brooklyn-based Mutant Supremacy‘s debut Infinite Suffering.
The vile metal that pours out of this disc is aggressive, dark and fits that old-school moniker to a tee. The production has just the right amount of muddiness in the mix to keep it well away from that over produced glean. The riffs throughout the album are just plain nasty and nearly as barbaric as the rhythm section that lays waste to everything in sight. Each solo that explodes out of your speakers will leave you twitching in a puddle of your own excrement as they shred like nobody’s business invoking images and memories of death metal’s formative days. Vocally, the lyrics outlining society’s ills and the inhumanity of man are spit and growled out with vehemence and malevolence.
So throw on that old, tattered Obituary t-shirt you’ve kept hidden away from the kids, crank the volume up and do a little home remodeling with your skull. This shit rules.
Flash Point
“Flash Point” starts the album off an energetic blast of frenzied mayhem in the form of pounding drums and driving riffage. Once the initial onslaught has passed, the crushing metal that follows is hell bent on pummeling you to dust. Deep guttural growls and layered screams bring in a groove that I could mainline all day long. The primary vocals are guttural barks and growls that match the malevolent attitude of the music accompanying it.
Sic Semper Tyrannis
This next song doesn’t waste anytime keeping the bludgeoning sole focused on your cranium. Bestial drums and riffing carry layered vocals and slick guitar work like an avalanche carries small villages and limp bodies down a hillside. This is a hell of a song that’s peppered with searing leads and vicious rhythms. They keep this up and I might have to call “uncle” after only a couple of tracks.
Morbid Dismemberment
Rolling riffs and rapid fire drumming gets “Morbid Dismemberment” off to a pretty steady start before the band settles into a high-paced gallop for the vocals to join with. Man, this song has a dark vibe to it. I love the use of the layered, higher-end screams the band uses throughout the disc it’s effective in it’s minimal usage. The lead at 1:54 is pretty damned slick.
Extinction
Storming out of the gate with a sick lead, the guys deliver the goods with “Extinction.” This is as violent sounding a track as you can find on the Infinite Suffering. It’s vile, abusive and delivered like a sledgehammer to the side of your skull. The song sends with a sound byte quoting J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb.”
Epitaph
“Epitaph” is a raucous helping of thrashing death metal that’s sure to split your face with a gaping maw of a maniacal grin. It’s a high tempo track that’s got some sweet riffing, layered growls and slick lead work. The rhythms that the band are laying down are thick and bulldozing.
Lady Forlorn
I love the staggered feel to the opening of this next track as the guys build up to a frenzied aural assault with maniacal drums and driving riffs. This one will have you head banging along in no time. It’s also got some of the sicker leads on the album (1:49 and 3:10). Love this track.
Vermin
Thick as hell riffs open this next one up as the beastly drums make their way forcefully into your cerebral cortex. There’s a quick, searing lead in the first minute as the guys jump from tempo to tempo with little regard for your well being. Keep up if you can is essentially what’s going on with “Vermin.” It’s an aggressively delivered, spastic and violent track.
Soaked in Hell
“Soaked in Hell” is like crawling belly down through the thickest, nasties sewer pipes you can imagine. This track is an utter crawl compared to the higher-paced material on the rest of the album. But, I’ll be damned if it’s any less menacing or violent. This song is dark and brooding like some unknown vile entity awaiting your arrival at the end of that dark, sludgy drainage conduit you’re crawling through. Fucking great way to end out an awesome album.
