Vomepotro, Liturgy of Dissection

Vomepotro: Liturgy of Dissection

Thankfully, I’ve never been on the receiving end of a skull fucking, but I can only imagine what a solid orbital socket pounding must be like. After listening to Liturgy of Dissection a few times, it’s safe to say that Brazil’s Vomepotro have put on disc what my polluted mind had conjured.

Mixing raw, brutal riffing with sporadic leads and blasting tempo shifts, the group showcase some versatility amongst their bludgeoning wall of sound. What really makes this album for me is the unrelenting, violent pace — the group refuses to let up even during the “slower” portions. At one moment, you’re taking repeated blasts to the skull and the next your innards explode with aggressive leads and angry-as-fuck vocals. And if their own, original work isn’t enough for you, they throw in pretty decent covers of Sepultura and Morbid Angel.

Incorruption
“Incorruption” gets Liturgy of Dissection off to a violent start after a brief sound clip from the recent remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These guys are full throttle from the get go and rarely let up with driving riffs, manic drum blasts and thick, guttural vocals. If you’re neck isn’t sore after this opening song, just you wait, there’s more beastial destruction in coming your way.

Cephalic Fast Food
Another clip from the aforementioned horror movie gets this next song going. Massive guitars erupt after the end of the clip with one hell of an evil tone to them. The drums are all over the place, delivering a blasting beat down from every direction. The layered vocals on this song are a nice touch. The 1:20 mark highlights the track with massive riffs during a brief slowdown. The lead that follows is damned impressive, as well.

Defaced By Pestilence
“Defaced By Pestilence” has a great opening with heavy handed drumming and memorable guitar work before the band descends into utter chaos. There’s a great deal going on in this song that it’ll take a few listens to catch the majority of them. The lead at the two minute mark is fucking awesome! After brief respite, Vomepotro explode with some slamming riffs and thick tones to end out the track.

Buried In Collective Grave
There’s no rest for the wicked with these guys. Just when you think you have a chance to catch your breathe, they unload another hellish volley of blasting drums and caustic riffs sure to have you in a frenzy in no time. Man, that was one hell of a track.

Assassin Psycopath
Another brief sound clip gets “Assassin Psycopath” underway with thick riffs and a guttural vocals. More layered screams add some depth to the track as the tempo shifts rapidly several time throughout. There’s another slick lead at 2:20 that fits the song perfectly.

Liturgy of Dissection
The title track keeps the violent pace at a cerebellum rupturing pace, except with a bit more groove. I love the guitar highlights throughout this song. They add some flair to song that’s dark and menacing with vocals that seem to have gotten even more guttural and evil. The song ends with one hell of a lead.

Horror Humanufactore
That same tone from the lead that ended out the previous track is present as Vomepotro save their best for “Horror Humanufactore.” This song has everything you could want in brutal death metal — violence, aggression and brutality. The drums are all over the place but never meander, always hitting each blast at just the right time. This is easily my favorite track on the album.

Carnivore Necropsy
“Carnivore Necropsy” is a solid, thick slab of bludgeoning death metal. I don’t have a lyric sheet to the album, but I can only imagine what vileness is being belched forth in the form of deep, guttural vocals. This song is aggressive in every aspect, from the vocal delivery to the way the band members seem so intent on pushing their instruments to their very limits. Another great song. The technical guitar work that appears during the lead in the latter half of the song is amazing.

Posmortiis Rectaliation
The final original song on the disc erupts out of the speakers with a bit of a thrash flavor to the initial guitars before the band hits the death metal switch. More layered vocals and animalistic blasts fill this song with more than enough evil goodness that you could ever want.

Mass Hypnosis
Those of you that are Sepultura fans out there will immediately recognize the opening few moments of this cover of the band’s “Mass Hypnosis.” All in all, Vomepotro have a done a pretty decent job paying homage to the forefathers of Brazilian death metal.

Dominate
The final track on the album is a cover of Morbid Angel‘s “Dominate.” Hearing this song in brutal death metal form is quite interesting, yet sounds perfectly natural. It’s an unique take on the song, that’s for sure.
