Apriori are the by-product of twin Turkish brothers that have an affinity for all things blackened. Obsessive Reactions, the duo's second demo, is a pretty varied mix of thrash, black metal, melodic death metal and ambient doom.

Woe

A Spell for the Death of Man

Misanthropic black metal is one of those sub-genres of metal that can be hit or miss. Woe's debut album was on the mark in terms of hitting some seriously evil and despondent chords with his take on the style. Higher end shrieks and screams accompany driving riffs that act as atmospherics and the final nail in the coffin of mankind at the same time.

There's a lot to look forward to when popping this one in the disc player. Massive riffs, driving tempos and thick rhythms accompany deep, guttural vocals throughout the album as elements of ambiance, melancholy and melody are injected here and there.

Dominator

The tracks on this EP are some of the more aggressive and ferocious songs I've heard all year. If you're looking to have your ass handed to you in just over 15 minutes time, Impeity's Dominator is just the disc to do it.

Despite the muddy production, this is a great demo. It's got everything a fan of aggressive metal could want — pummeling rhythms, manic drum work, crushing riffs and guttural vocals. What the band lacks in the production area, it more than makes up for with precision and fury. Definitely be on the look out for these guys in the future.

Nahvalr

What do you get when you "open source" the creation of an album? With Nahvalr you get songs that are dense, atmospheric, dark and chaotic in nature, yet consistent across the album's duration, making for a desolate soundscape of raw, textured black metal.

Sakrefix

In Shadow's Embrace

In Shadow's Embrace is a prime example of a calculated black metal attack. Mixing raw, unrelenting blasts with melodic elements, Sakrefix have proven that you don't need to be brutally raw and dark to scare the sweet bejeebus out of your listeners. The band's blend of or fury and song structure prove to be a winning formula for their latest album.

Lake of Fire embrace the underground feel, but also push their skills into otherworldly realms of evil with blasting rhythms, melodic guitars and desolate landscapes. Heed the Primal Calling is just what every malcontent needs in their daily consumption of metal.

This is one of those discs that really surprises you. I went into this one with preconceptions regarding the music it held and ended up really getting into Wounds. The band's shift in musical direction and energy really make this album one to listen to repeatedly.
